Some may say that mountain climbers spend a lot of time and energy scaling the summits but come back with nothing to show for it. But consider this: a mountaineer experiences the world in a very different way from someone who never steps outside their home. Genuine climbers do not do it just for praise or glory, but for the sublime experience of reaching the heights. You cannot do this without stepping onto the mountain path. Similarly, one does not practice Chan for praise or glory, but in the process one may discover something sublime — their true self.
